Gottfried Schultz Family

First Generation

Gottfried Schulz (1717-1779) and Maria Dominick (1725-1806) came from Germany to Northampton Co. PA. They were the parents of five children, of whom two came to North Carolina.

Children of Gottfried Schulz and Maria Dominick
Gottfried Schultz (1750-1823) m. Dorothea Schumacher (1761-1828)
Agnes Schulz (1754-1762)
Johannes Schultz (1757-1817) did not marry, lived Nazareth PA
Samuel Schultz (1760-1825) m. Susanna Hauser (1769-1842)
Jacob Schultz (1764-1793)

Second Generation

Children of Gottfried Schultz and Dorothea Schumacher
Christian Gottfried Schultz (1783-1816) m. Anna Maria Grabs (1783-1854). After his death she married John Gambold
Samuel Schultz (1786-1871) m. Christina Hein (1789-1873)
John Henry (Johann Heinrich) Schultz (1789-1851) m. Sabina Christman (1792-1879)
Thomas Schultz (1794-1826) apparently did not marry

Dorothea's will names her sons Samuel and Henry; Christian Gottfried and Thomas were already deceased by the time of her death. She also names Johanna Elizabeth Schultz, but does not identify her relationship, and we are not certain if this is her niece by that name, daughter of Samuel and Susanna, or a daughter or granddaughter.

Children of Samuel Schultz and Susanna Hauser
Nancy Schultz, no further information, may have died young
Jacob Schultz (1792-1848) m. 1) Johanna Eleonora Vierling (1797-1836); 2) Maria Pfaff (1804-1885)
Samuel Schultz (1794-?)
Johanna Elizabeth Schultz (1796-1874) did not marry
Maria Agnes Schultz (1799-1878) m. Johannes Reich (1795-1871)
Charlotte Christ Schultz (1804-?)
Rebecca Paulina Schultz (1811-1880) m. Charles Alexander Cooper (1810-1866)

This family was revised on June 19, 2005, based on the abstract of the will of Johanna Elizabeth Schultz published by the FCGS, and on Moravian records.

Third Generation

Children of Christian Gottfried Schultz and Anna Maria Grabs
Gertrude Lisetta Schultz (1813-1855) did not marry
Dorothea Matilda Schultz (1815-1908) m. John David Clewell (1804-1862)

Children of Samuel Schultz and Christina Hein
Antoinette Emilie Schultz (1825-1900) m. 1) Alexander Christian Blum (1813-1849); 2) Joseph Masten (1822-1876)
Permanio Thomas Schultz (ca. 1827-aft. 1870) m. Catherine Warner (d. 1858). Who were her parents?
Martha Rebecca Schultz (ca. 1829-?)

Martha Rebecca is listed as a Single Sister in the Moravian Records in 1847. In 1850 she is age 21, living with Samuel and Christina. We have assumed based on this census record that she is their daughter, but Jacob Schultz and Johanna Vierling had a daughter Martha, named in her grandmother's will, whom we can't find in 1850. Could this possibly be Martha Rebecca? We note that Christina Hein Schultz' will names only Antoinette and Permanio and their children, and doesn't mention a daughter named Martha. On the other hand, there is no Martha Shultz living in Forsyth Co. in 1860 or 1870, and no marriage record for one, so whoever she is, she may have died or moved away.

Children of John Henry Schultz and Sabina Christman
William Ferdinand Schultz (1824-1892) m. Lucia Josephine Foltz (1823-1883)
James Edward Schultz (1826-1870) no record of marriage
Cornelius A. Schultz (ca. 1831-aft. 1860)

Children of Jacob Schultz and Johanna Eleonora Vierling
Sanford Benjamin Schultz (ca. 1816-?) m. Delilah Foltz
Louisa Schultz (ca. 1817-bef. 1853) m. James Brendle
Romulus Augustus Schultz (ca. 1820-?) m. Christina Spurgeon
Edmund James Schultz (1822-?) m. Cynthia Thomas (1824-?)
Brendle (1813-1869)
Lewis Schultz
Gideon Schultz (ca. 1827-?) living in Bartholomew Co. IN in 1850
Martha Schultz
Caroline Schultz (ca. 1835-?)
Charlotte Elizabeth Schultz (1834-1869) m. Livingston Nathaniel Clinard (1828-1896)

These children are named as grandchildren in the will of Martha Elizabeth (Miksch) Vierling, 1840 (probated 1844).

Child of Jacob Schultz and Maria Pfaff
Charles Frederick Schultz (1837-1843)

Fourth Generation

Children of Permanio Thomas Schultz and Catherine Warner
Alice A. Schultz (ca. 1854-?)
Laura A. Schultz (ca. 1856-1930) m. Henry A. Styers (1858-1914)

The Forsyth cemetery records give Laura's birthdate as 1860, but the 1860 and 1870 census records indicate she was born about 1856.
