In the 1600's two families, the Cheshires and the Tennysons, lived in St. Mary's and Charles Counties., MD. William Cheshire married Mary Tennison and thereafter in most Cheshire families there is a Tennison Cheshire. Some even gave their daughters the name of Tennison. Several generations after the first Cheshire/Tennyson marriage my g-g-g-g grandfather James Jarvis married Sarah Cheshire in Rowan Co NC, 1813. They had a son, his name was Tennison Jarvis.

• John Tennison/Tennis (1621-1683)

• Abraham Tennisson and Mary Stevens
  (moved to Rowan Co ca. 1765 and later descentants to TN and MO)

• James Tennyson/Tennyson/Dennison
