Charles Carl Kuhn was born in Friolzheim, Baden-Wutterberg, Germany in 1848. The family left Breman, Germany aboard the ship Fulda arriving in Philadelphia, PA on June 14, 1887. He was married to Charlotte who was born in Stuttgart, Germany about 1850. Charles Kuhn became a naturalized citizen of the United States on January 4, 1909. His naturalization papers indicates he was 5"6", dark complexion, brown hair and brown eyes. His occupation was baker.

1910 Federal Census, Philadelphia, PA, (ED # 640, Visit 0018) Howard Kuhn, age 15, living with Charles Kuhn, identified as grandson.

Carl Kuhn was adopted by Richard Waterman and his wife, Grace E. Mathews. Shortly after the adoption the Waterman family moved from Philadelphia to the Washington, DC area and raised Carl Kuhn as their son. Sometime before Carl was 21 years of age, his name was changed to Richard Waterman, Jr. His descendants still live in the Washington, DC area

Helen Ruth Kuhn, my husband's grandmother, was adopted (adoption papers) by the Dillenbeck family of Bradford County, PA in 1912. The post card found in Helen's Bible eventually led us to Philadelphia where we found most of the information presented on this page.
